Nice to ride and less expensive than modifying the car to carry a bike.

This bike is nice to ride, and less expensive than modifying my car to carry my current bike (Giant ATX 2021).

The Reid Folding Bike has extended the places I explore by bike. I drive to interesting locations and explore local paths and sites on my Reid bike.

Don't expect to travel at road bike speeds, but really enjoy the slower pace and more comfortable riding position. My Reid Folding Bike can do 10-20 km/hr, and my bigger bike travels up to 35 km/hour. So a bit slower, but also a bit more enjoyable.

Easy to store, easy to transport and easy to ride.

Concerns and questions (I had before purchase) and my findings…

The bike would feel small and cramped?

Not at all, it rides nicely and is quite comfortable providing a more upright riding position.

The smaller wheels would be overly sensitive to bumps and turns? The Reid has 20 inch wheels, and handles similar to a gravel bike. Nicely balanced and quite stable. It handles light off-road and tracks well. Many other folding bikes including Brompton use 16 inch wheels.

The Reid bike was cheaper and may suffer quality issues?

After owning and riding, this bike has everything it needs without unnecessary extras. You could buy a back rack, mudguards or other extras you often see on more expensive folding bikes, but will you really use them? Or are they just an annoying source of rattles? This bike looks good, has a quality frame, and appears every bit as well made as my Giant ATX or others I found in bike shops.

    Will the gears be…

    Needs a how-to video

The bike is quite attractive, but the front seems a bit light for sturdiness.

I decided to buy this bike when there was still a shop front. I don't know if I would have if I'd realised it was only an online store. The lack of video or written instructions for folding means I am so far unable to fully fold the bike.

    Perfect beginner commuter bike!

For the money I cannot imagine a better beginner commuter bike. I live about 3km from work and have been meaning to start cycling there for years, but was daunted by the thought of spending $1,000+ on a bike I might not like, or which would be stolen from the apartment bldg garage. This collapsible bike is simple to fold and unfold and handles the daily commute easily, and can just as easily be stored in the spare room. I cannot yet comment on long term durability, and there have been a few niggles -- the bell snapped off whilst I was folding the bike one day -- but overall I am entirely delighted with this purchase. It may be that the more famous folding bike, which retails for ten times this price, offers features that an experienced cyclist would appreciate (though I struggle to imagine what a bike ten times as good would be like), but I am very happy with my Metro Folding.
